This position has off shift accountability for managing resources, to ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of culturally competent patient services for specific patient populations, in multiple units. Is recognized as a professional role model and clinical expert, and promotes a professional environment that supports continuous learning. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of division of nursing staff and shared governance activities.


EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care or Business Administration is preferred.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Four years of progressively more responsible job related experience.

ON-THE-JOB EXPERIENCE: Approximately six to twelve months to gain familiarity with the Hospital environment, department routines and procedures, and the full range of job duties.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Job requires a high level of problem-solving due to the complexity of the situations encountered.

INTERNAL CONTACTS: Internal contacts necessary to effectively advise, consult or counsel others to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas or actions.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: Work is occasionally performed according to existing procedures and instructions but often requires analysis of problems and development of solutions. This involves determining appropriate methods and task sequences.

PATIENT CARE: Assists with patient care by establishing and/or monitoring the techniques, policies, and procedures used by those who deliver care.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: Incumbent spends less than half of his/her time as an individual contributor. The primary purpose of the job is planning, assigning, and follow-up on the work of other associates and does require appraising the performance of associates, hiring/firing them, etc.

CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION/LICENSURE: Licensure as a registered nurse in the District of Columbia is required. Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner is preferred. Must obtain specialty certification in clinical specialty from a nationally recognized nursing organization or obtain CCRN certification within one year of hire. BLS and ACLS required.
